UWA & AARES: Aging of Farmers: Implications for Agriculture and Beginning Farmer Programs – online

February 12 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

This talk will focus on the issue of aging of farmers in many countries. It will also discuss the importance of entry and success of new farmers to ensure the succession of the next generation of farmers. Despite a series of policy interventions to provide access to credit, land, and capital for beginning farmers, little is known about whether the end-market consumers support the business ventures of beginning farmers and their products. This talk will also discuss a study using incentivized economic experiments to assess public’s willingness to support beginning farmers in terms of direct monetary donations, real effort volunteerism support, and willingness-to-pay for their products.
